Thoughts from the creator:

“Studying Craig Reynolds’ 1987 paper on flocks, herds, and schools; his java examples (my favorite being this one), I came across  using Justin Windle's AS3 Boid Class program. I wanted to create trails to mess around with using the AS3 Bitmap Class to render a display object and merge that output frame by frame while applying an alpha multiplier on the BitmapData before writing new data to it. Upon writing this, I realize that  probably makes no sense whatsoever. Regardless, I think the finished product looks really neat.”
